This is not about a rabbit, it's the dictated autobiography of a man who was named "Bunny". Let's get that out of the way first - no rabbits here. Go read "The Private Life of the Rabbit" by Lockley if you want rabbit-rabbits.
But if you want something special try The Biography of a Rabbit - it's something else. The subject grew up in the Finger Lake region of New York state in the 20s and 30s. The time spent on his rural childhood made me feel more connected to my own father and grandfather. It's a simple life illustrated through specific examples, it's fantastically down to earth and completely endearing. I was fascinated.
The story grows no less amazing when the narrator joins the Air Corps during WWII and is made a prisoner of war in Germany. I've read a lot of autobiographies of soldiers and this one has a hundred little details like I've never seen anywhere else. It's a conversation, not a memoir and that makes it chatty and hilarious and endearing in turns.
This is a really, really neat book.
Great book had a hard time putting down. Although it some spell checks it is easy to read. I highly recommend.
